Hope Bags – Knowing You Matter

Hope Bags

Inspiration and Purpose

Hope Bags were inspired by our own experience of receiving a self-care basket on our doorstep just days after we lost our son to suicide. Not only did the basket contain items that took care of us both physically and emotionally during our time of grief, but it also made us feel that what we were going through was important. The Knowing You Matter Hope Bags serve as a gentle reminder to those affected by suicide that they MATTER while also providing practical self-care items. Our vision is to be able to reach as many people as we can so that the one considering, the one who’s survived, and the family and friends of the lost can feel supported and cared for in a time of immense struggle.

Who are
Hope Bags for?

Hope Bag Partners

We have partnered with various organizations to help distribute our Hope Bags to those who are contemplating suicide, have attempted suicide themselves, or have lost a loved one to suicide. Hope Bags are meant to be a non-intrusive way to help open the door for individuals to reach out and take advantage of resources that can help them in their healing journey.

Some of our partners include:

  • Arroyo Grande High School
  • Atascadero Unified School District
  • Cal Poly
  • Lucia Mar Unified School District
  • Santa Maria Bonita School District

We have also collaborated with author and illustrator Eliza Todd to publish an affirmation journal and coloring book designed for youth. Both publications are bilingual (English/Spanish).
